Volunteers Needed: Here’s How You Can Participate in 2021 Law Week

The Philadelphia Bar Association will celebrate Law Week 2021 between Monday, April 26 and Friday, April 30 with an array of virtual community service events coordinated by the Young Lawyers Division and presented by volunteer lawyers.

Given the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing guidelines, Law Week has gone completely virtual this year. Programming will include a nightly call-in Legal Line with specific topics for residents of Philadelphia and the surrounding counties and opportunities for students across Philadelphia to interact with lawyers, watch the legal system in action, and creatively share their takes on legal and philosophical concepts. This year's Law Week theme, as identified by the American Bar Association, is "The Rule of Law." The rule of law is the foundation of our rights and freedoms as Americans.

We have all heard the phrase “the rule of law.” Over the past year, the rule of law has taken new and different meanings. More Americans than ever can share their personal view on the impact and promotion of rule of law.

"Although we recognize the transition of Law Week into a virtual format is an aggressive goal, we feel it is imperative to provide the same quality, enriching experiences to the community and youth that were provided before the pandemic,” said Andre Webb, chair of the Young Lawyers Division. “While only lasting for a brief period of time, these events allow the Bar Association and its members to connect with the community and give back. It also serves as an enlightening and enriching experience for all.”

Programs are aimed at educating our community, both children and adults, in the practice of the law. Volunteers are needed throughout the week for certain virtual programs. Please reach out to Andre Webb (WebbA@ggmfirm.com), Sarah Adams (sarah.adams.fbnk@statefarm.com), or Mike Jones (MJones@PhillyVIP.org) to sign up to volunteer for noted events.
