ABA Leads Call for Federal Emergency Relief for Bar Associations

The American Bar Association is leading an effort to have U.S. Congress include trade and professional associations—including bar associations—structured under IRS Section 501c(6) in federal emergency relief efforts due to the detrimental economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bar Associations, like the Philadelphia Bar Association, are centralized resources for legal professionals and legal aid organizations as they work tirelessly to help their clients, businesses, and low-income and vulnerable populations hardest hit by business closures and community lockdowns. Bar associations are influential in the realms of housing, employment, and healthcare by providing training, education, and other resources, becoming a trusted and reliable resource during a tumultuous and uncertain time.

However, bar associations are nonprofit employers with no profit margins, and are just as vulnerable to the economic downturn as a result of the pandemic as other for-profit businesses. Associations are experiencing a reduction in revenue, which consequently impacts their abilities to provide much-needed resources and services.

Join the effort to have professional associations included in federal emergency relief and help support bar associations to continue to support you!
