Chancellor Supports Independence of U.S. Attorney General

In light of recent criticism by President Trump of the United States Attorney General, Deborah R. Gross, Chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association, issued the following statement:

“As the head of the Department of Justice and the chief law enforcement officer of the Federal Government, the United States Attorney General must be able to conduct the duties of office with independence and integrity, free from interference by elected officials. The Philadelphia Bar Association applauds Attorney General Sessions for recognizing the need to recuse himself from the Russia inquiry, and for defending the independence of his office. We urge all of our political leaders to respect the autonomy of the Attorney General to ensure that justice is carried out fairly and impartially.”
