Association Governance

The Board of Governors has general charge of Association business.

Resolutions represent the official policy of the Association as determined by the Board of Governors. Resolutions cover a variety of issues of interest that affect the legal community.

Model Policies & Statements of Goals for Hiring & Retention of Women & Minority Lawyers are adopted periodically by the Board to provide guidance to legal employers dealing with personnel-related issues.

The bylaws govern the conduct of Association business and include categories of membership and dues, procedures for the nomination and election of Association officers, and provisions governing the sections and standing committees of the Association, as well as the Young Lawyers Division and the Commission on Judicial Selection and Retention.

Sections promote the objectives of the Association within various fields of law and advance the development of those fields.

Committees, both special and standing, offer Association members opportunities to focus on discrete substantive or procedural issues affecting the practice of law and the legal profession.

The Young Lawyers Division (YLD), with more than 4000 members, represents the interests of new and young lawyers. The YLD oversees numerous community service projects, as well as various activities relevant to newer lawyers.
