Judicial Commission

The Association's Commission on Judicial Selection and Retention evaluates judicial candidates to help voters make decisions about candidates for judicial office. The Commission's evaluations are based on criteria such as legal ability, experience, temperament, administrative ability, integrity and devotion to improvement of the quality of justice.

2019 Review Process

The 2019 candidate review process has begun. If you are contemplating running for Judge of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, Judge of the Philadelphia Municipal Court or for Justice or Judge of a statewide Appellate Court and have an office or chambers in Philadelphia, submit a completed candidate questionnaire and writing samples to cklitsch@philabar.org as soon as possible and not later than December 14, 2018. Once a completed questionnaire is received, an investigative team will be assigned to review your candidacy and report its findings to the Judicial Commission. Candidates who fail to provide a completed questionnaire and who decline to participate in the Judicial Commission’s review process will automatically receive a “not recommended” rating. Visit the Information for Judicial Candidates page for forms and additional information.

For the public, the Judicial Commission will begin issuing ratings of the candidates in early 2019 and will post the ratings to this page.
