Philadelphia Courts Closed Today

In accordance with the City's decision to close all municipal offices in order to ensure first responders have full access to all parts of the city, the First Judicial District's Administrative Governing Board has announced that all courts and offices of the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania will be CLOSED today - Monday, June 1st, 2020. Employees should NOT report to work.

Due to the emergency closing, emergency PFA petitions will continue to be processed at the Juanita Kidd Stout Center for Criminal Justice, 1301 Filbert Street, Philadelphia, PA until Tuesday morning at 8 a.m.

  • May 27, 2020 - PA Supreme Court issues Order terminating statewide Judicial Emergency as of June 1. Local Administrative Orders and Judicial Emergencies remain in effect. Order also provides guidance to legal professionals on resuming operations.
  • May 27, 2020 - Philadelphia Common Pleas Administrative Judge Allen and Supervising Judges New and Glazer have set new protocol for Discovery Motions filed after May 5 through July 6.
  • May 21, 2020 - President Judge Fox Cancels June Criminal Trials and Hearings; Amends Reopening Protocols
  • May 21, 2020 - Orphans' Court Administrative Judge Carrafiello issued protocol for assignment of Petitions for Minor's Compromise, Incapacitated Person's Compromise, and Settlement and Distribution of Wrongful Death/Survival Actions.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court issued an order temporarily modifying Rule 108 of the Pennsylvania Rules of Continuing Legal Education to eliminate the six credit cap on CLE credits earned through distance learning with respect to credits needed to satisfy all 2020 compliance deadlines.
